MyGovID is Switching to myID

Updated: Nov 25

The Australian Government is rebranding myGovID to myID, introducing a fresh name and new look while maintaining the app’s core functionality and security. This change is designed to be straightforward, allowing you to continue accessing government services without any disruptions. Below is everything you need to know to achieve a seamless transition.

What's Changing and What's Staying the Same

  • No New Setup Needed

All your existing account information, including your login credentials and identity verification levels, will be migrated to myID automatically. You won't need to create a new account or alter any details.

  • Automatic App Update

When myID is available, your app will automatically update, or you can manually initiate the update via the App Store or Google Play. This update will bring the new myID branding but will not change how the app functions.

  • Simplified User Experience

The new name, myID, was chosen to reduce confusion between myGovID and myGov. Looking ahead, myID may evolve to enable secure access to both government and private sector services using a single Digital ID.

To ensure a smooth transition to myID, keep your app updated. Regularly checking for updates helps you avoid interruptions and stay informed about future developments, allowing you to gain new features as they are released. The rebranding process is designed to be seamless and requires minimal effort, so you can continue using the app as usual after the update.

Protecting Your Business During the myID Transition

With the shift to myID, it is a great time to enhance your digital security. Here are some key tips to keep your business information safe:

  • Be Cautious with Links and Attachments

Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments in unexpected emails or SMS messages. Always verify the source, as trusted organisations won’t send unsolicited messages with clickable links.

  • Download Only from Trusted Sources

Ensure you download or update the myID app from verified sources like the App Store or Google Play. Enabling notifications for updates can help you stay secure with the latest version.

  • Keep Login Details Private

Protect your account by keeping your login code confidential. Avoid sharing it or using it on another person’s device.

By following these simple practices, you can keep your business secure through the myID transition. For additional assistance or questions, please contact us — we are here to assist.
